Panama to support Costa Rica for International Airport in southern region

The idea from the president of Costa Rica, Oscar Arias, of building an Internation Airport in the Southern Region of Costa Rica, is "in the air" since 2006, seems to be supported now by the Panamenian President, Mr. Ricardo Martinelli.

They are discussing the possibility to act together to obtain financing for the proyect, just 9 months before the ending of the Costa Rican presidential period, who talked a lot about this proyect during his campaign in 2006.

They both agree that a bigger airport, like in Liberia, would bring a lot of benefits to the tourism in the South Pacific of Costa Rica, the border, and the Northern Pacific of Panama.

This came up from a meeting in between both presidents, just a few days after the beginning of the Panamenian new Administration and some days before the start of the "XI Cumbre del Mecanismo de Diálogo de Tuxtla".

Listing in the Community of "Ventanas de Osa"

I just came back from an exciting trip to the Ventanas Beach area. This is very close to the communities of San Buena Ventura and Tres Rios, all communities of the Osa county, about 20 minutes South from Uvita - Ballena. The area is becoming wanted because of the construction of the only golf course under construction in the Southern Pacific, the San Buenas Golf Resort. I visited a total of 5 properties while in the area, they are beautiful properties with a lot of potential for investors and people looking for afordable land to build a second or vacation home. These are the listings:
3099 - Ranches/Farms || Lush vegetation with great river mouth view
3101 - Land/Building Sites || For house construction with ocean and Sierpe area view
3102 - Land/Building Sites || Building site overlooking the Terraba River mouth
3103 - Ranches/Farms || Land with many building sites and ocean view - w/ water stream
3104 - Land/Building Sites || Coastal Highway front commercial land
If you want to visit the area, you can stay at the RioTico Hotel in the area for a nice adventure trip. You may also visit the Pavon Tilapia Fish Restaurant (506-8311-8213 leave msg) to enjoy a delicious fresh fish.

Osa Mountain Village, a sustainable resort community

It is a pretty simple concept. . .with each unit paying $150/month (not per person) into the community kitty and labor costing us under $500/month per full-time person, we will have over $20,000 per month going towards food production and common-area maintenance. This food belongs to the members of the community. Our goal is to produce 50% to 80% of our food on-site, which will reduce your monthly food costs considerably.

We have already planted over 2,000 fruit trees, including 5 kinds of oranges. We've planted almonds to bring in the Scarlet Macaws. Other tree plantings are being scheduled right now as well!

New immigration law in Costa Rica

I just had a quick conversation with the local immigration officer, Juan, about a question I was ask by a customer before this morning in regards of a new law just signed in the congress, the "LEY DE MIGRACIÓN Y EXTRANJERÍA Número 8487".

She is concern about the period she can stay as tourist in the country. Right now, you enter Costa Rica and you can stay for 90 days without breaking the immigration law. My foreign friends around the South Pacific leave for 4 to 7 days to Panama and then enter the country again by the Southern border. You can do this several times, for as long as you need.

With the new immigration law, you will enter the country by any of the borders or access points and will be allowed to stay in the country for 90 days, just like now, but here is where the cards changed. Now, you will have to leave the country for at least 72 hours and then re-enter Costa Rica or, the new option, which is to "buy" time or a renewal by paying $200 USD approximately, and then stay for another 90 days, but here is the bad news: After those 2 periods of 90 days, you will have to stay out of the country for one more period, that be 90 days.

Some other changes coming in the law are:

  • Qualification of felony of the Human Trafficking.
  • Residents will have to pay Social Security quotas and be insured with the CCSS (Social Security Institution).
  • More funds to increase the number of policeman taking care of immigration and residents issues.
  • Approved amount of $2,500 USD to get the Abroad-Income Resident (lives in the country by gets a income outside of Costa Rica).
  • Approved amount of $1,000 USD to get the Retired Resident, now described as Permanent Residents (Retired persons who want to live permanently in Costa Rica).

San Isidro de El General

I wanted to show you the beautiful morning we had today.

This is a picture of the main church right in front of the park.

The church was remodeled in the past year, with new paiting, new decorated glass windows and renewed interiors.

The park is like this since 2006. All the new vegetation is growing and becoming very nice.
