The idea from the president of Costa Rica, Oscar Arias, of building an Internation Airport in the Southern Region of Costa Rica, is "in the air" since 2006, seems to be supported now by the Panamenian President, Mr. Ricardo Martinelli.
They are discussing the possibility to act together to obtain financing for the proyect, just 9 months before the ending of the Costa Rican presidential period, who talked a lot about this proyect during his campaign in 2006.
They both agree that a bigger airport, like in Liberia, would bring a lot of benefits to the tourism in the South Pacific of Costa Rica, the border, and the Northern Pacific of Panama.
This came up from a meeting in between both presidents, just a few days after the beginning of the Panamenian new Administration and some days before the start of the "XI Cumbre del Mecanismo de Diálogo de Tuxtla".
